Adopt a Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed

One look at this big beautiful gray boy and you know where he gets his name from. He is certainly easy on the eyes. Handsome has long muscular legs, a shiny powerful strong body, and a just about perfect square pibble head with ears that flop up and down. His fur radiates shining gray, his eyes are soft and he is always wearing a smile. When he sees you approaching his cage, he picks up his toy and comes immediately to the front of the cage to greet you. With toy in mouth
, his whole body wobbles from his tail wagging in happiness that you chose him. Handsome came to us as a stray and we've learned a little about him including he truly thinks he is a lap dog. Regardless of his size and strength, he will do whatever he can to get his 70 pound body as close to you as possible. After a little one on one time, he has proven he is able to settle down and relax. It just takes time for him to feel comfortable in new environments. He doesn’t know what he’s doing at a shelter and would much rather be at home sleeping on the couch, watching football, snuggling with his people. Handsome is estimated to be 1-5 years old. Once in his forever home, he’ll need time to adjust. Handsome seems fearful at times and very curious about his surroundings as if seeing parts of it for the first time. Once adjusted, he will be a loyal dog, one who attaches fairly quickly to his adopters. Are you the person willing to give him a little time, space and attention while he decompresses in a new home? Are you willing to have a 70 pound bulky boy climb into your lap while y'all sit and watch TV? Are you strong enough to walk him daily as he has been known to pull while walking on the leash? Daily walking and spending time together will certainly help you bond. While at VBAC, Handsome has not been too friendly with other dogs. This could be that he just doesn't like other dogs or that the shelter is just affecting him in this way. To be safe, right now, we're saying he should be an only dog, possibly only pet in a household. Handsome's solid and commanding nature plus his loving sweet side will make him a great family dog, keeping in mind that he doesn’t know his own power. Having said this, do you have kids?
